Rhine River and Rhine Tower
Rhine Tower:
The Rhine Tower, or Rheinturm, a grand spire topped with an observation deck, restaurant and antennae, is one of the premier attractions in Düsseldorf, Germany. Soaring above a curve in the Rhine River, this architectural landmark functions as a communications hub, a gathering place and a tourist magnet in the vibrant capital of North Rhine-Westphalia
It’s easy to visit the Rhine Tower on your own, but many guided tours of Düsseldorf’s major attractions include the landmark as a stop. For example, the Düsseldorf Tourism Board (duesseldorf-tourismus.de) offers an all-inclusive city tour that includes an ascent of the tower. A hop-on, hop-off Willms City Tour (citytour.de) also stops at the landmark. For the self-guided tourist, the tower looms just southwest of the Rheinkniebrücke and can be reached by following signs for “Landtag/WDR and Rheinturm.” The elevator ride up the tower requires a small fee. As of the time of publication, the tower is open all days of the year except on Carnival and Christmas Eve, and is open on New Year’s Eve only by reservation.
